Dick Marty

MartyBorn in 1945, Dick Marty is doctor in law. He was successively research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut of criminal law and Criminology at Freiburg, Attorney, State Counselor in the Canton of Ticino and Advisor to the Council of States, chairing Commissions on legal issues, economy and foreign policy. He was also Member in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe where he chaired the Commission on human rights. In this role he established numerous reports, particularly about the secret CIA prisons in Europe, the situation of human rights in the North Caucasus, the abuse of UN blacklists and the trafficking of organs in Kosovo. In July 2010, he became president of the University Council in Neuchâtel. In December 2010, he was appointed head of the “Assemblée inter-jurassienne” and in August 2011 Vice President of the world Organization against torture. Dick Marty is doctor honoris causa of the University of Geneva.
